THE WHOLE BIBLE ON CANVAS - HIGHLIGHTS:

The Bible has been, and is, a source of inspiration to artists all through the ages. An incident, a moment or a story that enthralled an artistic mind got transferred into works of art. The following are the great living proofs. Pieta (1499), The Last Judgment (1537-41), the Last Supper (1498) – all is the results of the fine impression The Bible had on creative minds.

But for Brahma Rangoju, his modest endeavor is the message of the whole Bible – the Word of the Lord which came from the emancipation of humankind.

In oil on canvas painting (8 ½ ft x 4 ft), the Birth of Christ (1994-1995), Brahma has attempted to depict the message of the Bible, emphasis being on the New Testament, against the backdrop of the Old Testament. You are invited to the guiding star that led the journey of the Magi to the “Word, which became a human being and full of grace and truth and wisdom, lived among us.” Down under Infant Jesus, who looked on the star but saw only the dark red spot of sin, the collective sin of the humankind, for the abolition of which he was sent to the world, was depicted. Who cares for the lamb that came to bear the sins of the world? Mother Mary, the blessed among women who carried the Lamb of God in her womb, was a strong presence in the painting, as well as in the Bible. The death of Jesus on the cross, his resurrection and ascension to glory, and a strong warning to the humankind, reminding them of the dangers that await them, if they return to the rule of darkness which made sinners of us all, are represented on the canvas.
