This piece is an allegory of the dangers of tobacco. The principal subjects, two adults in the center, carelessly smoking, unaware of the hazard, a child knowing better tries to make them aware by trying not to breathe the smoke. A woman on the upper left taps the ash of her cigarette as she drives symbolism of pollution that may harm other as second hand smoke. The common use of brown, yellow and red as found on the table, made of a tobacco leaf, and the shadow of the table showed in red is a symbol of caution, and cigarette warns that smoking is hazardous.
